While The Ministry of Agriculture has developed the rubber development strategic plan in order to resolve rubber price crisis. I would like to re-emphasize bringing philosophy of the "Sufficiency Economy” into practice. Besides that, Integrated Farming is the alternative way the smallholders across the country could use to adjust themselves to live under the current economic crisis without relying just on rubber planting. That means the farmers can grow crops together with livestock. The rest of products consumed in the household can be sold to generate income. These will boost the economic well-being of the households in the region.
For the role of the Office of the Rubber Replanting Aid Fund (ORRAF.), we strive to encourage the farmers to do the Alternative Agriculture alongside with rubber planting to supplement the ordinary income. Farmer’s institutes and other agricultural agencies such as the Department of Community Development, Department of Agricultural Extension, as well as Academic Institutions were integrated to support information and technical details for the farmers about Alternative Agriculture. We also support the circulating capital for the Professional supplements at an interest rate of 3 percent per annum with 3 years payback period. For those interested, please contact your nearest ORRAF.
Lastly, I would say that improving production quality, reducing production costs as much as possible and planting the proper plants on the suitable land are of prime importance. I deeply believe that these efforts could help Thai rubber farmers to confront with uncertain and volatile economic stably.
